Our Mission
The Organization for the Promotion of Education and Research OPER is a charitable organization dedicated to enhancing students and researchers’ performances and productivity in Canada (specially in minority communities) and low-income countries. Through subject-matter-experts volunteering, we fulfill the most pressing but impactful training needs at no cost and donate educational and research equipment and supplies to students and researchers in low-income countries worldwide and contribute to the reuse of out-of-use but functional equipment and materials. We believe that relevant education and research are key to sustainable development in low-income countries.
We support education for school children and students in local communities in Canada.
Our History
Low quality education and research represent a major impediment to improving health outcomes and ensuring sustainable development in low-income countries. For instance, although accounting for 12.5% of the world population, Africans contribute to less than 1% of the global research output while being the major victim of infectious diseases. More than half of unschooled children live in sub-Saharan Africa (UNICEF). Many programs (syllabuses) taught in African universities are not focused on how to improve health outcomes and ensure sustainable development in African countries. Education and research challenges in low-income countries have many origins including the lack of proper and relevant training, equipment and educational resources. In addition, for better productivity, more collaborations between researchers in low-income and developed countries are needed. OPER is a charitable organization created in 2021 by 4 professionals born in low-income countries. OPER intends to promote education and research in low-income countries, particularly in Africa by providing impactful training education and research materials and equipment to students, education and research institutions in low-income countries.
